GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN — The gritty streets of Detroit saw justice served this week as Joseph Michael McNoriell, a 43-year-old drug kingpin known by the alias Mike X, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The jury reached its decision after three intense days of trial. Sentencing is set for August 7, 2024, marking the end of a lengthy legal process.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten minced no words in his statement, ‘These illegal substances destroy lives and devastate communities. We will continue to dismantle the networks that spread this poison across our state.’
The evidence against McNoriell was overwhelming. He was shown to have orchestrated the transport of two kilograms of cocaine from southeast Michigan to Lansing using a female drug courier. However, his plans were thwarted on June 2, 2022, when DEA and Michigan State Police (MSP) agents awaited the delivery and seized the drugs.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene echoed Totten’s sentiments, ‘We will pursue those who profit from this darkness with relentless determination.’
This case was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, Michigan State Police, Lansing Police Department, and Holland Department of Public Safety, showcasing the power of law enforcement teamwork.
