A Wheeling man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for distributing cocaine base near a protected location in Ohio County.

Devon Alexander Bertram, also known as ‘VON,’ 31, of Wheeling, West Virginia, was sentenced to 15 months of incarceration for the drug charge, Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced.

Bertram pled guilty to one count of ‘Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1000 Feet of a Protected Location’ in January 2021. He admitted to selling cocaine base or ‘crack’ near The Linsly School in March 2020.

The investigation was led by the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, with the help of Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.

Bertram’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea and cooperation with the government. The case against him was investigated and prosecuted to hold him accountable for his actions and to prevent further drug-related crimes in the area.
