Mark James Frederick, Child Pornography, Texas 2012

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a chilling turn of justice, Deweyville resident Mark James Frederick, aged 61, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his heinous crime of child pornography. The U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced the sentence today, which comes after Frederick’s guilty plea on October 30, 2012.

Frederick’s descent into darkness began when a minor reported being sexually assaulted by him. The court heard that Frederick not only committed several sexual assaults but also took Polaroid photographs of the child engaged in actual or simulated sexual acts. A forensic examination at his residence uncovered over 600 images of child pornography, including prepubescent children under the age of 12.

The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at Frederick’s home, where authorities seized a laptop and numerous compact discs. Despite the absence of photographs of the minor, the evidence was overwhelming. A federal grand jury indicted him on September 5, 2012, for child pornography violations.

Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s initiative to combat child sexual exploitation, played a pivotal role in bringing this case to light. The project has been instrumental in identifying and rescuing victims while apprehending those who exploit children online.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice leading the prosecution. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
