Tampa Man Sentenced for Sex Offender Crimes
Tampa, FL – A convicted sex offender was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States and failing to register as a sex offender. Isidro Diaz-Sanchez (31), a Mexican national, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Virginia Hernandez Covington.
A review of court documents revealed that Diaz-Sanchez was previously deported from the United States as an aggravated felon on October 8, 2015. At the time of his deportation, he had been convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child in North Carolina, after having engaged in sexual activity and impregnating a minor child. As a result of his conviction, Diaz-Sanchez was required to register as a sex-offender and maintain his sex offender registration for a period of 30 years.
In January 2017, Diaz-Sanchez reentered the United States illegally and was subsequently found in the Hardee County Jail pending charges of resisting without violence and attempting to use the identification of another person. A review of the Florida Sex Offender Registry revealed that Diaz-Sanchez had failed to register as a sex offender.
“This criminal alien was a dangerous threat to our youth and ICE is proud to increase community safety by putting him behind bars,” said Michael W. Meade, acting field office director for the Miami Field Office of ERO.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa M. Thelwell.
Diaz-Sanchez pleaded guilty on September 28, 2017, to the charges against him. He will serve his 30-month sentence in federal prison.
ICE Acting Director Tom Homan praised the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for their work on this case.
The community is safer thanks to the dedication of law enforcement officials and the justice system, ensuring that those who commit heinous crimes are held accountable.
