Aleksei L. Sharp, a 35-year-old from Arvada, Colorado, has been indicted for his role in a digital-age drug trafficking operation that peddled cocaine, ketamine, and MDMA (also known as ecstasy) to buyers across the United States. The operation, which was dismantled by the Homeland Security Task Force, involved the use of encrypted communications to sell the illicit substances, which were then distributed through the United States Postal Service. The indictment was unsealed on June 17, 2026, following Sharp’s initial court appearance.
Sharp allegedly used cryptocurrency transactions to launder the proceeds from his drug sales, setting up virtual currency wallets and instructing buyers to transfer funds into these wallets. He then used cryptocurrency exchanges to convert the virtual currency into cash, attempting to hide the money trail and evade detection.
The investigation was part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative, a whole-of-government partnership aimed at eliminating transnational criminal organizations and human trafficking rings. The HSTF comprises agents and officers from various law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The HSTF’s efforts have led to the disruption of numerous criminal operations, including those involved in child trafficking, human smuggling, and violent crime. In this case, the task force’s work has resulted in the indictment of a digital-age drug dealer who used sophisticated methods to evade detection and profit from the sale of illicit substances.
