Prison Inmate Sentenced for Possessing Drugs in Federal Correctional Facility
In a move to crack down on illicit activities behind bars, Dilpreet Singh, a 34-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Loretto, Pennsylvania, was recently sentenced to 13 months in prison for possessing a prohibited object in prison.
The incident occurred on July 14, 2017, when Singh was found to be in possession of a quantity of Buprenorphine, a controlled substance. This discovery led to a federal investigation, with the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Correctional Institution, Special Investigative Staff, Loretto, Pa., working together to bring Singh to justice.
On February 15, 2023, Singh pleaded guilty to the indictment before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson. Following the guilty plea, he was immediately sentenced to 13 months in prison and three years of supervised release, to be served consecutively with his current prison term.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, citing the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment within federal correctional facilities.
United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the agencies involved in the investigation, stating that their tireless efforts led to the successful prosecution of Singh.
