Philadelphia Man Guilty of Violating Federal Drug and Gun Laws
A Philadelphia man has been found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, according to a recent federal conviction.
John T. Terry, 47, was convicted by a jury of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and cocaine, between March 30, 2018, and April 4, 2018.
The conviction stems from a four-day jury trial, and Terry is scheduled to be sentenced on January 31, 2023. The law provides for a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $31,000,000, or both.
Additionally, Senior District Judge Kim R. Gibson found Terry guilty of possessing a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol at the time of his arrest. This conviction is particularly significant, as federal law prohibits persons who have been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing firearms.
Terry’s prior conviction, which occurred on June 2, 1998, was for interference with interstate commerce by robbery, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. This prior conviction makes him subject to stricter gun laws and increases the severity of his current charges.
The investigation that led to Terry’s prosecution was conducted by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police SHIELD Unit, and the Somerset Turnpike Barracks.
With this conviction, the community can rest a little easier knowing that those who engage in drug trafficking and gun violence will be held accountable for their actions.
