Pittsburgh Man Sentenced to 31 Years for Heroin Trafficking and Gun Crimes

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to 31 years and eight months in prison for violating federal drug and gun laws, specifically conspiracy to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

On June 2014, investigators seized approximately three kilos of heroin and 16 firearms from James Perrin, 44, and co-defendant Price Montgomery during searches of a vehicle occupied by Perrin and Montgomery and Montgomery’s residence in the Mt. Washington section of Pittsburgh.

Perrin and Montgomery operated a heroin distribution network out of Montgomery’s residence during 2013 and 2014. Assistant United States Attorneys Heidi M. Grogan and Shaun E. Sweeney prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung commended the Western Pennsylvania Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the IRS – Criminal Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Perrin.

Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak imposed the sentence on Perrin, who will serve 31 years and eight months in prison.

The case is a result of an investigation led by the Western Pennsylvania Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the IRS – Criminal Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.

Perrin’s conviction serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal drug and gun laws. The investigation and prosecution of Perrin’s case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating heroin trafficking and gun crimes in Pittsburgh and across the region.

The sentencing of Perrin brings an end to a lengthy investigation and prosecution. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring Perrin to justice.
