District Man Faces Death Intent Charges Over Northeast Shooting

WASHINGTON – In a chilling turn of events in the Fort Totten neighborhood, Alante Partlow, 29, has been charged with assault with intent to kill and other grave offenses stemming from a shooting incident on April 23, 2024. The charges were announced yesterday by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela A. Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Partlow is currently detained ahead of his preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27, 2024, before Superior Court Judge Robert Okun. According to the government’s evidence, Partlow followed a victim and a five-year-old child from an apartment building after a heated argument. Armed with intent, he fired at the adult and attempted to shoot the child as well.

During the exchange of gunfire, the adult sustained multiple gunshot wounds while trying to protect the child. Tragically, both victims were injured in the shooting. The case is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Roberts handling the prosecution.

The charges against Partlow include one count of assault with intent to kill while armed for firing on the adult, a second count for firing at the child, and additional counts for aggravated assault while armed and possessing a firearm during the commission of each violent crime.

It is important to note that a complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the violence plaguing our city streets and highlights the critical work of law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety.
