Tennessee Man Sentenced to 87 Months for Child Sexual Abuse
A Fort Campbell soldier has been handed a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of child sexual abuse, according to a recent court ruling.
Donald Lee Collins, 41, of Clarksville, Tennessee, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison after having pled guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and one count of attempted transfer of obscene material to an individual under the age of sixteen.
Collins was charged with the crimes in connection with his interactions with a minor victim, who was the daughter of a friend, on Facebook Messenger. The two began exchanging sexually explicit messages and images in late December 2019, and Collins went on to sexually abuse the minor victim at his home on the night of December 31, 2019.
Collins continued to engage in sexually explicit communication with the minor victim over Facebook Messenger after January 1, 2020, despite his conduct resulting in his being other than honorably discharged by the Army.
As a result of his crimes, Collins will be required to register as a sex offender and serve 10 years on supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nashville Field Office, Clarksville Resident Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica R. Morrison prosecuted the case.
Collins’ crimes have sent shockwaves through the community, and his sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of child sexual abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The U.S. government’s efforts to combat child sexual abuse and protect victims are crucial in preventing such crimes from happening in the first place.
