A Jonesport man, Donald McMahon, 34, was sentenced to 37 months in prison and three years of supervised release for a wire fraud scheme in Maine.
The U.S. Attorney, Darcie N. McElwee, announced the sentencing in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
According to court records, from April 2020 through October 2020, McMahon embezzled approximately $100,000 from a bank account belonging to an estate being probated in Washington County.
McMahon obtained unauthorized access to the estate account and utilized PayPal to transfer funds for his own use.
The FBI and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
McMahon pleaded guilty on January 13, 2022.
The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine.
