PITTSBURGH – Tre Robert Goins, 31, of Donora, has copped to serious drug and firearm charges. The previously convicted felon pleaded guilty in federal court on July 9 to trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, as well as possessing a firearm and ammunition illegal for someone with his record.
Goins is set for trial next August on an added charge of using a gun to further drug trafficking crimes. This comes after a wild chase earlier this year when Goins fled from a Duquesne police traffic stop. He led cops on a high-speed pursuit, ending in a crash that saw his car yield drugs and stolen weaponry.
Senior Judge Joy Flowers Conti has set sentencing for October 22. The defendant could face up to 20 years behind bars and a $1 million fine. Assistant US Attorneys Kelly M. Locher and Katherine C. Jordan are handling the prosecution. Goins remains in custody until his fate is decided.
The investigation was led by the ATF, Clairton, Duquesne, and Elizabeth Township police forces, part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aiming to curb gun violence and violent crime. PSN focuses on fostering community trust, supporting anti-violence groups, strategic law enforcement, and measuring results.
Goins’s previous felonies involving firearms mean he was already barred by federal law from possessing guns or ammunition. The case underscores the government’s commitment to Project Safe Neighborhoods and its mission to make neighborhoods safer for all residents.
