Kenneth Maurice Quick Jr, a 26-year-old from Laurinburg, North Carolina, has been convicted of murdering two men, WL and TD, on Ft. Bragg, after a cocaine deal turned deadly. The events unfolded when Quick agreed to buy cocaine from WL, but had no intention of paying. TD, who had sold the cocaine to WL, joined him on the trip to sell it to Quick. However, Quick had other plans, taking WL to a trap house in Laurinburg where he shot him in the back five times.
TD, attempting to avoid the same fate, helped Quick dump WL’s body in a rural location in the woods on Ft. Bragg. But when the truck bottomed out in the sand, Quick turned on TD, shooting him once in the head and once in the back. Quick then coordinated with others to escape Ft. Bragg and later ransacked, moved, and burned TD’s truck.
The investigation, led by the FBI and the US Army Criminal Investigation Division, uncovered a meticulous timeline of Quick’s crimes. In the lead up to the trial, Quick was found to have discussed the potential witnesses against him, even passing their names and discussing the ‘work’ they required. When one of the witnesses was killed, Quick responded with satisfaction, saying it made him ‘happy’.
The conviction ensures that Quick will spend the rest of his life behind bars, bringing a measure of justice to the victims and their families. US Attorney Ellis Boyle stated that the verdict makes North Carolina a safer place, despite the wounds of the victims’ families never being truly healed.
