Timarcus Lavonnte Britt, Armed Robbery, North Carolina 2023

⏱ 3 min read

A summer morning in July 2023 turned into a nightmare for Eastern North Carolina gas station employees and customers when a brazen crew, led by 29-year-old Timarcus Lavonnte Britt, embarked on a 4-hour crime spree, hitting five gas stations in Pitt and Martin counties.

The crew, consisting of Britt, Jaliek Grant, and a juvenile, started their rampage at a Speedway on Highway 264 in Greenville, where they robbed a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot. Over the next few hours, they targeted four other Speedways in Greenville, Williamston, and Robersonville, using the same modus operandi each time: two masked men, armed with guns, would burst into the store, shoving their firearms into the cashier’s face, and demand money.

The total haul from the robberies is estimated to be in the thousands, with the thieves making off with cash, cigarettes, and other merchandise. However, their luck ran out when Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies tipped off employees at the final gas station, a Speedway in Oak City, allowing them to prepare for the crew’s arrival.

Britt’s crew was finally brought to justice after a federal jury convicted him on four charges of robbery and four charges of brandishing a gun during the commission of these robberies. U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle vowed that Britt ‘can expect to spend decades in prison regretting his crimes.’
