Ashley Moore, a woman who claims to be transitioning to become a male, has been sentenced to one year and one month in federal prison for making threats to commit a mass shooting in Raleigh, NC. Moore pleaded guilty to transmitting a threat in interstate commerce on January 14, 2026, after sending a number of threatening emails and texts, including statements like ‘This will make national news’ and ‘I am taking as many souls as I can with me.’ Moore had been receiving treatment from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Michigan, but became upset when she couldn’t immediately receive the treatment she wanted in Raleigh.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Moore’s threats were taken seriously, and an investigation was launched by the VA Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brad Devoe, and U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan handed down the sentence.
U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle stated that ‘we will not tolerate threats to our citizens’ and that ‘too often, threats take the first step to actual violence.’ Boyle emphasized that the safety of the community is a top priority, and that no one is above the law in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
