Douglas Harsh, a 55-year-old Adel man, has been sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for his role in the transportation of child pornography. The sentence was handed down on Friday, September 5, 2025, in a Des Moines, Iowa courtroom.
According to court documents, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTip in regards to an account associated with Harsh. The tip led to a search of Harsh’s Adel residence, where law enforcement seized electronic devices. The investigation revealed that Harsh was a member of an online chat group that shared images and videos of child pornography, including content featuring prepubescent children.
Harsh’s involvement in the online chat group was a key factor in his sentencing. The group’s members shared and discussed child pornography, with some even going as far as to produce and distribute the material. Harsh’s actions were deemed a serious threat to national security and community safety.
In addition to his 108-month prison sentence, Harsh will be required to serve a seven-year term of supervised release. He will also be ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution. This is a significant blow to those who seek to exploit and harm children through the internet.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those who exploit children via the internet. The initiative was launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.
