New York Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography
A 26-year-old man from Cairo, New York, has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges. Drew Caswell admitted to using a file-hosting service to download and distribute explicit images and videos of children.
According to the investigation, Caswell used the service Mega to download the child pornography and then distributed it on Twitter. He also admitted to possessing nearly 300 images and videos of toddlers and infants being sexually abused on his cell phone.
The case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood is a program launched in 2006 by the government to combat the exploitation of children online. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet.
Caswell will be sentenced on September 24, 2024, by United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci. He faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, as well as a post-imprisonment term of supervised release of between 5 years and life.
A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the statute the defendant violated, the United States Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors. Caswell will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of combating child exploitation online. Law enforcement agencies and prosecutors are working tirelessly to track down and prosecute individuals who engage in this heinous crime.
