Dubuque Man Pleads Guilty to Heroin Distribution Charge

A Dubuque man was found in possession of heroin and cocaine by local police officers in November of 2017, and has since plead guilty to a heroin distribution charge in federal court.

Gregory Fugi Anderson, Jr., 31, was stopped by the Dubuque police while walking down the street on November 17, 2017. Anderson agreed to let the police search him, and during the search, officers found multiple packages of heroin and cocaine in his possession.

In a later interview with officers, Anderson admitted that he was planning to sell the heroin and cocaine in Dubuque. The heroin and cocaine were found near Orange Park in Dubuque, Iowa.

According to United States Attorney Peter E. Deegan, Jr., the heroin epidemic is claiming the lives of Iowans at an alarming rate, and public safety demands that law enforcement aggressively pursue those who choose to sell these dangerous drugs.

Anderson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 60 years’ imprisonment, as well as a $4,000,000 fine, $100 in special assessments, and at least 6 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

A sentencing hearing will be held once a presentence report is prepared, and Anderson remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert, and was investigated by the Dubuque Police Department, Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
