HARRISBURG, PA – A brazen attempt to flood Canadian streets with illegally obtained American firearms has landed four individuals in federal court. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the indictment of Durante King-Mclean, 25, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Prasath Paramalingam, 34, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Archit Grover, 36, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; and Jalisa Edwards, 25, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on charges related to a multi-state, international firearms trafficking conspiracy.
The scheme unraveled on September 2, 2023, when Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Franklin County pulled over King-Mclean for multiple traffic violations. Instead of complying, King-Mclean, allegedly in the country illegally, bolted on foot, leaving behind a rental vehicle packed with 65 firearms. A subsequent search revealed a terrifying arsenal – two of the weapons were fully automatic machine guns, eleven were reported stolen, and one had its serial number deliberately obliterated. Authorities allege these guns were destined for the black market in Canada.
According to the indictment, the conspiracy stretched back to April 2023. Prasath Paramalingam allegedly orchestrated King-Mclean’s illegal entry into the United States and then funneled funds to purchase the weapons from Florida, Georgia, and other locations. As King-Mclean traveled north towards Canada, through Pennsylvania, Paramalingam continued to provide financial support for the illicit operation. The scale of the operation suggests a well-organized effort to profit from the flow of illegal weapons across the border.
While King-Mclean faced immediate arrest, the investigation didn’t stop there. Archit Grover and Jalisa Edwards were later charged as accessories after the fact. The indictment alleges they actively worked to cover up evidence related to the gun smuggling and shared information about the ongoing investigation with co-conspirators – a clear attempt to obstruct justice and protect the network. The full extent of their involvement remains under investigation.
“ATF’s highest priority is reducing violent gun crime, and firearms trafficking feeds that crime by putting guns in the hands of violent criminals and other prohibited people,” stated Eric J. DeGree, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF’s Philadelphia Field Division. “This action has kept 65 firearms off the street – preventing them from being used in any number of killings and other crimes – and ended this international firearms trafficking scheme.” Sara C. Bay, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI Philadelphia, added that international arms trafficking “greatly endangers citizens of both countries.”
Pennsylvania State Police Major Serell Ulrich emphasized the collaborative effort that brought the case to light. “This indictment is the result of outstanding pro-active enforcement by our Patrol Troopers, which led to a larger successful inter-agency investigation,” he said. “Illegal firearm trafficking has no boundaries, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners both federally and internationally to mitigate this worldwide problem.” The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are possible as authorities continue to unravel the full scope of the conspiracy.
