Durkan Steps Down Amid Cybercrime Fight
Washington – U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan has stepped down from her post, leaving behind a legacy of fighting cybercrime and protecting the rights of Americans.
Attorney General Eric Holder released a statement Wednesday praising Durkan’s tireless advocacy for justice. ‘As United States Attorney for Western Washington, Jenny has served as a tireless advocate for the American people, for the citizens of Washington state, and for the cause of justice,’ Holder said.
In her five years at the helm, Durkan demonstrated remarkable skill in guiding complex litigation, fostering interagency coordination, and combating a wide range of criminal activities, including cybercrime. She was also an exceptional leader in the fight against cybercrime, working to protect the civil rights of all Americans.
Durkan’s leadership extended beyond the courtroom, as she launched one of the first federal drug courts with a strong focus on education, prevention, treatment, and community outreach.
‘Jenny Durkan exemplifies the highest standards of personal integrity and professional excellence. For the past five years, I have been grateful for Jenny’s dedicated service and her wise counsel,’ Holder said.
Although Durkan’s next step in her career remains unclear, Holder expressed confidence that the people of Western Washington will continue to benefit from her service for years to come.
‘I will miss her leadership, her contributions, and her friendship,’ Holder said, in a rare expression of personal sentiment from the Attorney General.
In a statement, Durkan offered no comment on her resignation, leaving speculation about her future to fill the news cycle.
