Dustin Rose, Child Exploitation, Indiana 2024

INDIANAPOLIS – Dustin Rose, 33, of Indianapolis, will spend the next 35 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sickening crimes against children. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge James P. Hanlon, comes after a disturbing investigation revealing years of abuse and a trove of depraved imagery.

Court documents detail a four-year pattern of predation. Rose engaged in sexually explicit conduct with three separate children, meticulously documenting his abuse with photographs. In 2018, Rose surreptitiously photographed a girl under 16, zooming in on her genitals and even capturing an image of himself inappropriately touching her. The girl was a relative of a woman Rose was dating at the time, adding a layer of betrayal to the horror.

The abuse didn’t stop there. Between November 2020 and August 2022, Rose repeatedly fondled the breasts of another girl, a relative of the same woman, while she slept. This victim was under the age of 12. When the relationship with the woman ended in August 2022, a crucial piece of evidence came to light. The woman discovered a microSD card belonging to Rose, containing a horrifying collection of sexually explicit images.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers arrested Rose on October 19, 2022, seizing his cell phone. Investigators quickly uncovered even more damning evidence: images of a young girl, between three and four years old, including one depicting Rose touching the child’s exposed pubic area. A deeper dive revealed a Dropbox account filled with over 600 images and videos of child sexual abuse material, including depictions of pre-pubescent children being raped and sexually abused.

“No child should suffer sexual abuse, especially at the hands of individuals they and their families believed they could trust,” stated U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers for the Southern District of Indiana. “For years, this predator exploited multiple children to satisfy his criminal sexual desires…Mr. Rose will now spend decades in federal prison, where he cannot sexually abuse another child.” The U.S. Secret Service, as part of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, played a key role in the investigation, alongside IMPD.

Judge Hanlon ordered Rose to be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for life upon his release and to register as a sex offender. This case was pursued under Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle M. Sawa and Kristina M. Korobov prosecuted the case, bringing a measure of justice to the victims and ensuring this predator will no longer prey on the innocent.
