Dwayne Murray, Murder, New York 2020

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Three alleged members of the Bloods gang are facing a barrage of federal charges, including murder, after a joint investigation by federal and state authorities cracked down on their alleged criminal enterprise. Dwayne Murray, Kendrick Seymore, and Lavalle Wilson are accused of participating in a racketeering conspiracy marked by violence, drug trafficking, and brazen acts of murder on Long Island.

The 32-count superseding indictment, unsealed today in federal court, alleges a pattern of ruthless behavior. Dwayne Murray is directly charged with the June 2020 murder of Wayne Cherry in Baywood, his body discovered two days after a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the backyard of a vacant home. Kendrick Seymore faces even graver accusations: the July 23, 2021, murders of Nyasia Knox, Diamond Schick, and Richard Castano, all gunned down inside a Farmingville apartment during a robbery gone horribly wrong. A one-year-old child was present during the shooting, narrowly escaping harm.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace, leading the charge from the Eastern District of New York, stated the indictment “speaks loudly to this Office’s commitment to making our communities safer by holding ruthless gang members accountable.” Peace emphasized the tireless work of prosecutors and law enforcement partners in dismantling the gang’s operations on Long Island. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney echoed that sentiment, highlighting the importance of joint prosecutions in tackling serious gang violence.

According to the indictment, the trio engaged in a litany of criminal acts, including robberies and home invasions, all allegedly conducted in furtherance of the Bloods’ objectives. The investigation, spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), utilized “Crime Gun Intelligence” to connect a series of violent incidents, tracing firearms used in multiple crimes back to the gang. ATF Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Tommy Kalogiros stated that ATF NY is “determined to root out the drivers of the deadly cycle of violence in our communities.”

The indictment details the alleged events of the Farmingville massacre. Seymore and an accomplice, both armed, allegedly entered Richard Castano’s apartment with the intent to rob him. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in the fatal shootings of Castano, Knox, and Schick. The senseless violence underscores the brutal reality of gang activity and the devastating impact it has on communities.

All three defendants – Dwayne Murray, Kendrick Seymore, and Lavalle Wilson – are currently in custody and will be arraigned at a later date. The charges include racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, attempted murder, various firearms charges, and narcotics-related offenses. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gang violence and the collaborative efforts required to bring perpetrators to justice. The Suffolk County Police Department was also praised for their unwavering dedication to eradicating gang violence on Long Island.
