A Minneapolis man has been charged with armed carjacking after he allegedly stole a preacher’s car at gunpoint.
On August 1, 2021, Dwight Keith Eaglehawk, 34, approached the victim in a parking lot near Lake Street in south Minneapolis.
The victim, a preacher, was handing out water bottles to homeless individuals when Eaglehawk approached him and requested two bottles of water.
After receiving the water, Eaglehawk brandished a Marlin .22 rifle and demanded the victim’s Dodge Dart.
The victim handed over the keys to his car, and Eaglehawk fled the scene in the Dodge Dart.
Eaglehawk pleaded guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court before Senior Judge Ann D. Montgomery to one count of carjacking.
A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later time.
This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Evan B. Gilead and David P. Steinkamp are prosecuting the case.
Eaglehawk’s guilty plea is a significant step in holding him accountable for his actions.
The victim in this case was simply trying to help those in need when he was victimized by Eaglehawk’s reckless behavior.
