Federal Jury Convicts Ahoskie Man for Robbery and Aiding and Abetting

NEW BERN, N.C. – In a stunning display of brazen crime, a federal jury delivered a guilty verdict against Dytwan Donnelle Chamblee, a 27-year-old Ahoskie resident, for his role in the February 5, 2020, Hobbs Act robbery of the Duck-Thru convenience store in Cofield, North Carolina.

Chamblee, who was on post-release supervision from a North Carolina state felony conviction at the time of the crime, stood accused of helping his co-defendant, Ray’Quan Langford, rob the store at gunpoint. The evidence presented in court revealed that Langford, also wearing an ankle monitor, brandished a firearm and demanded money and other items from the clerk, while stealing cell phones from customers.

However, Chamblee’s ankle monitor data, which recorded GPS location information, implicated him as the getaway driver following the robbery. This damning evidence, combined with Chamblee’s extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for possession of a weapon by a prisoner, possession of a firearm by a felon, breaking and entering, and larceny, sealed his fate.

As a convicted felon, Chamblee is a validated member of the Bloods street gang, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. His sentence will be determined during the January 11, 2022, term of court, at which point he could face up to 20 years in prison.

G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan accepted the verdict. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ahoskie Police Department investigated the case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Dodson. Related court documents and information can be found on the website of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina or on PACER by searching for Case No.2:20-CR-51-1FL.
