South Dakota Man Charged With Assault Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury
A disturbing act of violence has left one person seriously injured in Dupree, South Dakota. Loren Laplante, Jr., a 24-year-old man from Eagle Butte, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
According to the indictment, Laplante allegedly assaulted a victim on January 9, 2015, resulting in serious bodily injury. The maximum penalty upon conviction could be up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Laplante has been released on bond pending trial, but a trial date has not been set.
