Eagle Butte Man Convicted Of Simple Assault Of A Minor
A 30-year-old Eagle Butte man has been convicted of simple assault of a minor.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, David Roberts Jr., 30, of Eagle Butte, pleaded guilty to simple assault of a minor on April 24, 2013, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to one year of custody, a $100,000 fine, and a $25 assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from an assault of a minor victim that occurred in Eagle Butte in May of 2012. The investigation was conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 24, 2013.
The investigation highlights the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, especially when it comes to vulnerable victims such as minors.
