Local Man Sentenced for Marijuana Trafficking
Aadam Tiger, a 29-year-old man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, was handed a 55-day prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, specifically marijuana.
Tiger was arrested in December 2011 after a traffic stop by the Cheyenne River Law Enforcement. During the stop, officers detected the smell of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.
With consent to search the vehicle, officers discovered marijuana, plastic baggies, a grinder, scale, zig-zag papers, roaches, and $725 in cash. The investigation revealed that Tiger had the intent to distribute some or all of the marijuana found in his possession.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich, with the assistance of the Cheyenne River Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Tiger was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 15, 2012, and pleaded guilty on August 13, 2013. On November 25, 2013, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down the sentence of 55 days of custody, 2 years of Supervised Release, a $1,000 fine, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The harsh sentence serves as a warning to those involved in marijuana trafficking, emphasizing the severe consequences of such actions.
