Justin Larson, 30, Found Guilty of Acetyl Fentanyl Distribution Resulting in Death

Greenbelt, Maryland – A federal jury has convicted Justin Larson, 30, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, of distributing acetyl fentanyl that resulted in a person’s death, among other charges.

The conviction was announced by Rod J. Rosenstein, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, and other federal and local law enforcement officials.

According to the evidence presented during a three-week trial, Larson conspired to distribute acetyl fentanyl and furanyl fentanyl, a controlled substance analogue, from May 2014 through March 17, 2016. The evidence showed that on May 9, 2014, Larson distributed acetyl fentanyl to an individual, which resulted in the death of that person.

Larson now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison for the distribution of acetyl fentanyl with death resulting. He also faces up to 30 years in prison for the narcotics conspiracy and up to 20 years in prison for each of the six possession and distribution counts.

The case was investigated by HSI Baltimore, the FBI, Montgomery County Police Department, and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Kelly O’Connell Hayes and Erin Pulice are prosecuting the case.

Larson will be sentenced on April 26, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis. He remains detained.

The conviction highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the growing threat of opioid distribution and overdose deaths in Maryland and nationwide.
