GRIMY NEWS: Eagle Butte, SD – A shocking revelation as Donni DaRae Traversie, also known as Donna Dupris, faces a relentless federal charge.
This gritty crime saga took a darker turn when the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the United States Attorney’s Office for South Dakota announced that Traversie has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Distribution of a Controlled Substance.
Traversie, 26, of Eagle Butte, was formally charged on January 19, 2017. She stood before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on January 24, 2017, where she entered a not guilty plea to the charges laid against her.
The gravity of the situation is underscored by the potential penalties. If convicted on each count, Traversie could face up to 20 years in custody and/or a fine of $1,000,000. The sentence could also include life on supervised release, a payment of $500 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and an order for restitution.
According to the allegations, between April 1, 2012, and January 19, 2017, Traversie conspired within the District of South Dakota to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine. The criminal activity is further substantiated by four specific instances between June 14 and July 1, 2016, where Traversie allegedly distributed the dangerous drug.
Traversie’s case is a collaboration between the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services Narcotics Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney SaraBeth Donovan. Despite the grave charges against her, Traversie remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The wheels of justice continue to turn as Traversie has been released on bond to a third party custodian pending trial. The trial is set for April 4, 2017, setting the stage for a crucial confrontation in the courtroom.
