A predator with a history of preying on the young is back behind bars. Carlos Cabrera-Zaruma, a 45-year-old Ecuadorian national, was convicted in 2008 of sexually assaulting a minor in Connecticut. But he didn’t stay gone. He illegally re-entered the US from Mexico in 2000 and again after being deported in 2010.

This time, he was busted in Danbury on September 6, 2025, on traffic charges. ICE agents took him down soon after. Cabrera-Zaruma has been locked up since his federal arrest on October 7, 2025.
He’s facing a maximum 20-year sentence for re-entering the country illegally after his conviction. The sentencing hearing is set for June 29 in Hartford.
