A 22-year-old Ecuadorian citizen has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a brazen alien smuggling operation.
Edgar Placencia-Guaillas, an illegal alien who entered the United States unlawfully in 2022, was found guilty of alien smuggling and conspiracy to commit alien smuggling in a federal court in Albany, New York.
According to prosecutors, Placencia-Guaillas traveled to the northern border in Chateaugay, New York, on August 25, 2024, where he smuggled two people – one from Mexico, the other from the Dominican Republic – into the United States for profit.
