Ontario woman Mary Ann Langridge, 63, was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting alien smuggling after allegedly helping two undocumented individuals enter the United States through Lewiston Landing on May 21, 2019. The charge carries a minimum of three years in federal prison, a maximum of 10 years, and a $250,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo, N.Y., a U.S. Border Patrol agent responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle near the Lewiston Landing docks. The unoccupied vehicle drew immediate suspicion, prompting agents to establish surveillance. Moments later, Langridge was seen standing on the upper terrace, waving toward a vessel approaching from the Niagara River with multiple occupants on board.
As Border Patrol agents moved toward the dock, the vessel abruptly reversed course and fled south along the river. Agents withdrew from direct view but maintained observation. The boat later returned. Without docking or securing itself, two individuals—later identified as Rosa Guadelupe Lopez-Gomez of Mexico and Leonardo Jimenez-De La Rosa of the Dominican Republic—stepped directly from the vessel onto the dock. The craft then sped back toward Canadian waters.
Langridge was confronted by agents moments after the two migrants set foot on U.S. soil. Neither Lopez-Gomez nor Jimenez-De La Rosa possessed immigration documents permitting legal entry into the United States. Langridge, identified as the orchestrator onshore, was taken into custody and charged with aiding and abetting alien smuggling.
The defendant made her initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for May 24, 2019. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan P. Cantil is prosecuting the case, which stemmed from an investigation led by U.S. Border Patrol under the direction of Patrol Agent-in-Charge Josh Barrett.
The criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Mary Ann Langridge is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
