David Alejandro Gomez-Flores, Human Smuggling, California 2020

⏱ 2 min read

Three smugglers got slammed with federal sentences, including 240 months, for their roles in a deadly transnational human smuggling operation. Over the course of a week, the ring raked in $79,000 in smuggling proceeds, but it came at a steep price: a Guatemalan man died in the process.

A Laredo-based human smuggling organization was responsible for moving thousands of illegal aliens across the southern border of Texas. In one week alone, the organization generated a whopping $79,000 in smuggling proceeds.

The ring’s leaders, including Mexican nationals David Alejandro Gomez-Flores and Martha Angelica Limon Parra, showed a reckless disregard for human life. The court heard evidence of numerous instances in which aliens were injured or had to be ‘rescued’ during their journeys.

The organization was also linked to the Los Fantasmas gang and the Cartel del Noreste. In imposing sentence, Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo emphasized the extensive and lucrative nature of the operation.
