A 29-year-old Brownsville woman is in hot water for posing as a federal agent in two separate scams, bilking victims out of $250,000.
Mayra Collins allegedly donned the badge and uniform of a U.S. immigration officer in 2022, promising to expedite Visa applications for a fee. But there was no legitimate job or authority behind the title.
Collins struck again in 2025, this time claiming to be a Border Patrol agent with the power to hire and fire. She told a victim there were job openings, but only if they sent her money for uniforms and gear.
It’s not the first time Collins has been caught impersonating a law enforcement officer. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
