HARRISBURG – Eduardo Lopez-Zamorano, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 84 months in prison to be followed by three years on supervised release by United States District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson for illegally reentering the United States.
Lopez-Zamorano has a long criminal history in the United States, with convictions including obstructing the administration of law, criminal mischief, harassment, and driving under the influence. His most recent conviction was for punching a female victim in the face in February 2024.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Lopez-Zamorano was removed from the United States on May 26, 2022, after serving a five-month sentence for illegal reentry. He illegally reentered the United States again and was removed on December 9, 2022.
Lopez-Zamorano was found in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, where he had been charged with assault for holding a knife to the throat of the mother of his child on March 30, 2024. He had not obtained legal permission to reenter the United States.
Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, is a part of this case. This initiative marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
This matter was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera prosecuted the case.
Lopez-Zamorano’s exact criminal charges include obstruction of the administration of law, criminal mischief, harassment, driving under the influence, and assault. He was found in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and the case is part of Operation Take Back America.
