A 31-year-old Rosebud man has been handed a stiff sentence for his failure to register as a sex offender, a crime that puts the public at risk. Edward Zane Roubideaux, Jr., was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The case against Roubideaux began in December 2021, when he was indicted by a federal grand jury for failure to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty to the charges on February 10, 2022. Roubideaux was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in November 2011 and is required to register as a sex offender.
However, Roubideaux failed to update his sex offender registration after he moved out of his registered address in Sioux Falls on June 30, 2021. He was arrested on August 6, 2021, and subsequently charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
The investigation into Roubideaux’s crimes was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case.
Roubideaux was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing on May 16, 2022. This sentence sends a clear message that failure to register as a sex offender will not be taken lightly.
