Elementary Teacher Accused of Sickening Child Porn Crimes

KANSAS CITY, MO – Dennis Adlai Hernandez, 28, an elementary school teacher in Independence, Missouri, is facing federal charges related to the possession and distribution of child pornography. The accusations against Hernandez are deeply disturbing and have prompted a swift response from federal authorities.

Hernandez was arrested at his home yesterday following the execution of a federal search warrant. He is currently in custody and scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate today. The charges stem from a three-count federal criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Missouri. He is charged with transportation of child pornography, production and attempted production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

The FBI initiated the investigation on August 19, 2025, after receiving 19 CyberTipline Reports (“Cybertips”) from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (“NCMEC”). These reports were triggered by disclosures from Google on August 18th, indicating that multiple files of apparent child sexual abuse material had been uploaded to Google Photos by an account linked to Hernandez. Agents subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant, uncovering further evidence.

If convicted on all charges, Hernandez faces a lengthy prison sentence. Transportation of child pornography carries a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment. Production and attempted production of such material carries a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years. Possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The final sentence will be determined by the court, considering advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

The FBI is actively working to identify any potential victims of Hernandez. Anyone who believes they or a child they know may have been victimized is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. If you are under the age of 18, please have a parent or guardian make the call on your behalf. The FBI emphasizes that all responses are voluntary and will be treated with confidentiality.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Dunning and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating the sexual exploitation and abuse of children. It is crucial to remember that these are accusations, and Hernandez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. A redacted copy of the complaint and affidavit are available for review.
