KANSAS CITY, KAN. – William Lockwood, 41, is staring down a lengthy federal prison sentence after admitting to possessing horrific child pornography. The Kansas City, Kansas man, now residing in Pleasant Valley, Missouri, pleaded guilty today to one count of possessing child pornography, a crime that carries a potential penalty of up to 12 years behind bars.
This isn’t Lockwood’s first brush with the law concerning the exploitation of children. Court records reveal a prior conviction in 2012 from Collier County, Florida, where he was found guilty of obscene communication with the intent to lure a child for sex. The details of that case paint a disturbing picture of a predator with a long-standing pattern of depravity.
The current case unfolded after a tip from Dropbox alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Investigators quickly zeroed in on Lockwood’s account, discovering he wasn’t just hoarding the vile material, but actively sharing it. Lockwood admitted in his plea that he uploaded the images and videos and provided access to others, amplifying the harm inflicted on the victims.
A search of Lockwood’s Dropbox account yielded a sickening haul: 26 videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The FBI took the lead on the investigation, meticulously building a case that ultimately led to Lockwood’s guilty plea. The evidence is irrefutable, the crimes are abhorrent, and justice demands a substantial punishment.
Both the prosecution and defense have agreed to recommend a sentence of 144 months – 12 years – in federal prison. U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister praised the collaborative effort of the FBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Flannigan, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in combating this type of heinous crime.
