OMAHA, NE – Eliuth Montero-Barrera, a 24-year-old Mexican citizen living in Dallas, Texas, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
According to court documents, Montero-Barrera and his co-defendants transported over 22 kilograms of methamphetamine from Houston to Omaha in a speaker box hidden in their vehicle. He admitted to investigators that he made two previous deliveries to Omaha.
Montero-Barrera was arrested in Omaha in August 2023 after meeting with two co-defendants at an AutoZone parking lot. During a post-arrest interview, he confessed to his involvement in the conspiracy.
Montero-Barrera’s co-defendants, Gregorio Mina-Falcon and Alexis Rodriguez, have also pleaded guilty to the same charge. Mina-Falcon is set to be sentenced on May 29, 2024, while Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, 2024.
A third co-defendant, Jose Luis Garcia-Perez, was sentenced to 9 years in prison on March 27, 2023, for his role in the conspiracy.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing, stating that Montero-Barrera’s actions put the community at risk and that he will face the consequences of his actions.
Montero-Barrera will serve 108 months in prison followed by a 3-year term of supervised release after his release. He is not eligible for parole in the federal system.
