Elizabeth Johnson, Drug Trafficking, North Carolina 2022

RALEIGH, N.C. – A U.S. District Judge delivered a severe blow to the streets of Elizabeth City by sentencing Miguel Yasmir Williams, a 35-year-old career criminal, to 14 years in prison for possessing cocaine with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Williams entered his guilty plea on January 29, 2025. U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle declared, “Miguel Williams has terrorized our community long enough. His prison sentence is a clear message that selling drugs is no longer profitable.”

Elizabeth City Police Interim Chief Eddie Graham echoed the sentiment, “Drug addiction has wrought havoc on our community. We are committed to pursuing those who sell this poison and protecting our families.”

ATF Special Agent in Charge Alicia Jones emphasized the link between drug dealing and gun violence, stating, “A firearm in the hands of a drug dealer is a recipe for disaster. ATF will continue to work with law enforcement partners to apprehend such threats.”

Court documents revealed Williams’ extensive criminal history, including kidnapping and multiple cocaine-related convictions. The evidence at the scene was grim: a stolen loaded gun and a bag of cocaine, packaged for distribution.

U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle announced the sentencing following Judge Dever’s ruling. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Phil Aubart and Robbie Dodson prosecuted the case, which is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat crime and protect communities.
