EUGENE, Ore. – Anthony D’Montrez Crawford, 29, and Kaytlynn Ann Crawford a/k/a Alderman, 27, both of Eugene, Oregon, are facing federal charges in a harrowing sex trafficking operation that stretched across multiple cities. The pair were arrested and charged by criminal complaint with violations including sex trafficking of children by force, fraud, or coercion, transportation for prostitution, persuading or coercing to travel to engage in prostitution, use of an interstate facility to induce or coerce a minor to engage in prostitution, transportation of a minor for prostitution, and conspiracy.
According to court documents, Anthony Crawford allegedly forced individuals into prostitution within the Eugene and Springfield areas. The indictment paints a picture of a calculated and brutal operation where Crawford actively advertised sexual services online, negotiated prices directly with customers, secured hotel rooms for the exploitation, and then strong-armed victims out of their earnings through intimidation, threats of violence, and, disturbingly, actual physical violence. The scheme wasn’t limited to Lane County; Crawford allegedly transported victims using rental cars to cities like Portland, expanding the reach of his depravity.
Kaytlynn Alderman wasn’t a passive bystander. The complaint alleges she played a crucial role in facilitating Crawford’s criminal enterprise. Specifically, she opened and maintained a car rental account used by Crawford to transport victims, allowed hotel bills to be charged to her bank card, and permitted payments from customers to be deposited into a CashApp account registered in her name – effectively laundering money earned through human exploitation. This wasn’t just about turning a blind eye; it was active participation in a horrific crime.
The FBI’s Seattle field office spearheaded the investigation, ultimately rescuing a minor victim who had been forced into prostitution not only in the Pacific Northwest but also in Portland and the Eugene-Springfield corridor. An adult victim was also identified, subjected to the same exploitative conditions in the same locales. The details emerging from this case are a stark reminder of the hidden horrors of human trafficking operating even in seemingly quiet communities.
Both Crawford and Alderman made their initial appearances in federal court today. Crawford was ordered detained pending further proceedings, deemed a flight risk and a danger to the community. Alderman was released, also pending further court appearances. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Huynh is prosecuting the case, promising a vigorous pursuit of justice for the victims. This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation.
