Elizabeth Clemente, Forgery of a Passport, Massachusetts 2023

A New Jersey woman has pleaded guilty to using a fraudulent passport card in an attempt to withdraw money from a customer’s account at a Shrewsbury credit union.

Elizabeth Clemente, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of forgery or false use of a passport.

Clemente was arrested on November 7, 2023, after employees at the credit union reported that she had attempted to withdraw money by impersonating a real credit union account holder.

When questioned by law enforcement, Clemente initially identified herself as ‘Heather’ but later provided the name of the real account holder and handed over a fraudulent U.S. Passport Card.

The passport card bore the name and actual date of birth of the real account holder, but contained Clemente’s photograph.

Clemente is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6, 2025.

The charge of forgery or false use of a passport carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy announced the plea, along with Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, Boston Field Office, and Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson.
