A federal court has slammed down a harsh sentence on Kenneth Thomas, a 43-year-old Elkhart man, for his role in distributing methamphetamine in the South Bend area.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Thomas pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty to 140 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
The case against Thomas reveals a disturbing trend of methamphetamine distribution in the South Bend area. Between February and March 2023, Thomas sold methamphetamine multiple times, resulting in the distribution of a total of two pounds of the highly addictive substance.
The investigation into Thomas’s activities involved a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, including the North Central Laboratory, as well as assistance from the Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit and the South Bend Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Katelan McKenzie Doyle prosecuted the case against Thomas, bringing the defendant to justice for his egregious crimes.
