Eltonya Wiley Pleads Guilty to Identity Theft, Lady Lake FL, 2023

Eltonya Wiley, 40, of Lady Lake, has finally come clean after a years-long web of identity theft. The Southern District of Florida’s U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer and the IRS-CI have announced Wiley’s guilty plea for her role in a massive scheme that stole over ninety patients’ identities.

The victims were patients at Villages Endocopy, a medical facility nestled near The Villages in Central Florida. Wiley, who was an employee at this facility, admitted to using the stolen Social Security numbers of these unsuspecting patients for fraudulent activities.

In a stunning turn of events, Wiley has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, three counts of wire fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft. The consequences could be severe, with each wire fraud charge potentially leading to twenty years in prison, while the aggravated identity theft charge mandates at least two additional years, consecutively.

Wiley’s guilty plea is just the latest chapter in a saga that began with stealing identities and escalated to filing false federal income tax returns. The scheme was not just limited to tax fraud; Wiley also obtained fraudulent credit cards which were used for purchases, adding another layer of financial mayhem.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Carlton will handle the prosecution of this case. Sentencing is set for June 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., before U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra in West Palm Beach.

The coordinated efforts of IRS-CI and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office have been hailed as instrumental in bringing Wiley to justice.
