Mark Latham, 61, of Scottsdale, Arizona, was sentenced to 78 months in prison for embezzling over $10.7 million from his employer. Latham, a former finance director, pleaded guilty to wire fraud after using company funds to pay his personal credit card debt, provide himself unauthorized bonuses, and lead a lavish lifestyle. The embezzlement occurred from 2009 to 2025, when Latham was caught. He used the funds to buy Super Bowl tickets, Taylor Swift concert tickets, and luxury hotel rooms.
Latham’s scheme involved editing the company’s bank statements to conceal his embezzlement. He spent $39,000 on Super Bowl tickets in 2023, $29,731 on Taylor Swift concert tickets in 2023 and 2024, and $46,248 for a room at the Four Seasons Hotel in Costa Rica in 2018. He also spent $38,827 on NFL season tickets from 2022 through 2024 and $28,098 on a golf simulator in 2024.
The FBI’s Phoenix Division conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Aron Ketchel handled the prosecution. Latham was ordered to pay $10,752,535 in restitution to his employer.
Latham’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea to wire fraud. The case highlights the importance of internal controls and audits to prevent embezzlement. The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to investigate and prosecute white-collar crimes in Arizona.
