A 49-year-old personal assistant from Queens, NY, Catalina Corona, swindled nearly $10 million from her elderly employers in a brazen Long Island, NY, wire fraud scheme that spanned seven years.
Between 2017 and 2024, Corona deposited hundreds of checks from her victims’ bank accounts without their knowledge or consent, using the cash to pay her credit card bills and fund her lavish shopping habits at high-end brands like Louis Vuitton and Cartier.
The victims, an elderly married couple from Long Island, trusted Corona with their care and put their faith in her to manage their finances. Instead, Corona squandered their trust and their savings, raking in millions for herself.
Corona’s guilty plea is a rare glimpse into the darker side of personal relationships, where trust is shattered by deceit and greed.
Corona faces a maximum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment and will be required to pay restitution and fines for her crimes.
