Emelio Neftaly Pineda, Unlawful Reentry, Massachusetts 2025

BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, Emelio Neftaly Pineda, a 46-year-old Salvadoran national residing in Lynn, Massachusetts, has been indicted for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation.

According to the charging documents, Pineda was deported on or about July 20, 2016, after having been convicted of a felony. Despite this, he managed to reenter the country, sparking a federal investigation that ultimately led to his arrest on June 12, 2025.

The indictment charges Pineda with one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, a serious offense that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The defendant is also subject to deportation upon completion of any sentence imposed.

Pineda’s alleged crime is a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of immigration and deportation in the United States. The case has sparked widespread concern among lawmakers and law enforcement officials, who are pushing for tougher penalties for individuals who attempt to reenter the country after being deported.

The details contained in the charging documents are allegations, and Pineda is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. His arraignment in federal court in Boston is scheduled for a later date.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Riley of the Human Trafficking & Civil Rights Unit is prosecuting the case.
