BOSTON – A brazen act of defiance against the law has landed a Methuen resident in hot water. Florencio Antonio Nuñez Guerrero, a 39-year-old Dominican national, pleaded guilty today in federal court in Boston to unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation.
Nuñez Guerrero was deported from the United States on March 3, 2017, after serving a federal sentence for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin. But instead of staying out of the country, he chose to return, illegally.
According to the indictment, sometime after his March 2017 removal, Nuñez Guerrero illegally reentered the United States without permission. This reckless disregard for the law will now cost him dearly, as he faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien is a serious one, and Nuñez Guerrero’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for the rule of law. His decision to return to the country after being deported will now have severe consequences.
U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs scheduled sentencing for July 8, 2025. In March 2025, Nuñez Guerrero was indicted by a federal grand jury. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra Gonzalez Sanchez of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, made the announcement. The defendant is subject to deportation upon completion of any sentence imposed.
Nuñez Guerrero’s actions are a stark reminder that the law will not be ignored. His case serves as a warning to others who may be tempted to disregard the law and return to the country after being deported.
