OKLAHOMA CITY – Timothy Alonzo Evans, a former tax preparer from Enid, Oklahoma, has been hit with serious federal charges after pleading guilty to assisting in the preparation and presentation of a false tax return. The deceitful scheme, which involved the submission of fraudulent business losses for the 2014 tax year, could land Evans behind bars.
Evans, who operated under the guise of ‘House of Tax Smart’, has admitted to filing returns for both the 2013 and 2014 tax years. According to court documents, he agreed to pay the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) restitution of $82,227, plus statutory interest.
The hearing on May 29, 2019, confirmed Evans’s guilt. Sentencing is scheduled for approximately 90 days from now and could see him facing up to three years in prison, along with a fine of up to $100,000.
This case was the result of an investigation by the IRS-Criminal Investigations unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Farrior will be leading the prosecution against Evans.
Evans’s actions have not only cost him his freedom and reputation but also a significant financial burden as he must now face the consequences of his fraudulent activities.
