Defendant Named in Social Security Number Fraud Case

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Enna Serrano-Cruz, a 31-year-old native of Honduras, has been sentenced for her role in a social security number fraud case. Serrano-Cruz, who used a fake Social Security number to obtain employment, was found guilty of violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

According to court documents, Serrano-Cruz was caught on December 14, 2022, at the Gulf Coast Safety Council office in St. Rose, Louisiana, where she was attempting to finalize her employment with a local company. During her visit, Serrano-Cruz presented a fraudulent United States Social Security card bearing the name and Social Security number of a U.S. citizen.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of Homeland Security Investigations in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney M. Irene González of the General Crimes Unit handled the prosecution.

Serrano-Cruz was sentenced to one year of probation and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00. The case highlights the importance of identifying and combating social security number fraud, which can have serious consequences for individuals and employers.

The Gulf Coast Safety Council provides safety courses to applicants applying to work with companies that service petrochemical processing plants. In this case, Serrano-Cruz’s fake Social Security number was discovered during the application process.
